A smooth introduction to the wavefront set

چکیده
The wavefront set provides a precise description of the singularities of a distribution. Because of its ability to control the product of distributions, the wavefront set was a key element of recent progress in renormalized quantum field theory in curved spacetime, quantum gravity, the discussion of time machines or quantum energy inequalitites. However, the wavefront set is a somewhat subtle concept whose standard definition is not easy to grasp. This paper is a step by step introduction to the wavefront set, with examples and motivation. Many different definitions and new interpretations of the wavefront set are presented. Some of them involve a Radon transform. Introduction to the wavefront set 2

Constrained Interpolation via Cubic Hermite Splines
Introduction In industrial designing and manufacturing, it is often required to generate a smooth function approximating a given set of data which preserves certain shape properties of the data such as positivity, monotonicity, or convexity, that is, a smooth shape preserving approximation. It is assumed here that the data is sufficiently accurate to warrant interpolation, rather than least ...
متن کاملContinuous Curvelet Transform: I. Resolution of the Wavefront Set
We discuss a Continuous Curvelet Transform (CCT), a transform f → Γf (a, b, θ) of functions f(x1, x2) on R , into a transform domain with continuous scale a > 0, location b ∈ R, and orientation θ ∈ [0, 2π). The transform is defined by Γf (a, b, θ) = 〈f, γabθ〉 where the inner products project f onto analyzing elements called curvelets γabθ which are smooth and of rapid decay away from an a by √ ...
متن کاملResolution of the Wavefront Set Using Continuous Shearlets
It is known that the Continuous Wavelet Transform of a distribution f decays rapidly near the points where f is smooth, while it decays slowly near the irregular points. This property allows the identification of the singular support of f . However, the Continuous Wavelet Transform is unable to describe the geometry of the set of singularities of f and, in particular, identify the wavefront set...
متن کاملUse of a Two-Channel Moiré Wavefront Sensor for Measuring Topological Charge Sign of the Vortex Beam and Investigation of Its Change Due to an Odd Number of Reflections
One of the solutions of the Helmholtz equation is the vortex beams. In the recent decades, production and applications of these types of beams have found serious attentions. Determination of the vortex beam topological charge and its sign are very important issues. Odd number of reflections of the vortex beam changes its vorticity. In this paper, we have used a q-plate to generate a vortex beam...
متن کاملThe Lie Algebra of Smooth Sections of a T-bundle
In this article, we generalize the concept of the Lie algebra of vector fields to the set of smooth sections of a T-bundle which is by definition a canonical generalization of the concept of a tangent bundle. We define a Lie bracket multiplication on this set so that it becomes a Lie algebra. In the particular case of tangent bundles this Lie algebra coincides with the Lie algebra of vector fie...
